CENTERING PRAYER -- 1

The relationship of Centering Prayer to Intercessory Prayer came up in the E-Course on Intercessory Prayer now happening at Spirituality and Practice.  I just added the following comment on the forum for Week 2, session 3 and the Teleconference:

Thoughts on Centering Prayer

I practice the Keating method and I love it. I have never once succeeded in driving out distracting thoughts.

BUT ...

I sure sense a reduction in them when I return again and again to the sacred word I chose.

AND ...

Some of those distracting thoughts seem to be useful and life-changing. Is God speaking to me with distracting thoughts? Maybe. I don't know. As I continue the practice, I do feel a peace and joy which is hard to describe but definitely a motivation to keep on doing it.

On the teleconference I enjoyed the banter betwen Jane and Mary Ann immensely including the idea that the distraction of Intercessory Prayer during Centering Prayer was not so bad a distraction.
