THE RED SOX AND RAYS ADVANCE TO ALCS
The Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays have battled all season long for supremacy in the Americanj League East. The Rays finished two games ahead of the Red Sox. Now they face each other in the best-of-seven American League Championship Series. The Red Sox have been in this series many times including 3 of the last 5 (4 out of 6 including this one). The Rays make their first appearance. It begins in St. Petersburg on Friday. The Red Sox won last night in dramatic fashion. Jon Lester pitched 7 shut out innings and left leadingt 2-0. But the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim tied it up in the top of the eighth. In the bottom of the ninth Jason Bay doubled with one out. Jed Lowrie drove him home with a walk-off single.
The Philadelphia Phillies will host the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS opener Thursday.
