This is a real test for the media. The media is influential. People are swayed by the media. Some journalists are speaking out. But McCain and Palin will continue to get away with their racist campaign unless the media presents a united front. Journalists must all tell McCain & Palin that they must stop the race baiting or they will be called on it by every responsible journalist in the nation.
Joe Klein, writing in TIME magazine, has said what all responsible journalists need to say until McCain & Palin call off their hate campaign. I can't find a link but I heard that he said that the Republicans are betting on the premise that the media will go overboard trying to equate the McCain campaign's negativism with the Obama campaign's negativism rather than concentrating on the despicable nature of the McCain campaign. Klein says he will not be associated with such journalistic cowardice. I'm paraphrasing what I heard but I think I got it basically right. Of course, if I find the link, I will update this post.
