Advent: Day 22 > O Come, O Come Immanuel and The O Antiphons and The
Magnificat
O
Come, O Come Immanuel is sung as part of the ancient and dynamic tradition of
the O Antiphons which are said and sung from December 17 to December 23 in many
Western Christian churches. The Magnificat (Luke 1:46-55) is the Gospel for the
Fourth Sunday of Advent as we dwell on the need for willing servants of God and
particularly a Messiah who will be a peacemaker and usher in era of justice. We
continue to long for such an era and wait for the Messianic age to take hold.
