THE REPUBLICAN MAJORITY COALITION IS FINISHED
I am certain that the Conservative Republican domination of the USA and the planet for that matter has come to an end. We may continue to see the slogans and the fear-mongering and hate-mongering for years to come. But it isn’t working any more. It’s over.
Of course, the Republicans will win again but their agenda will be different. They will not be able to ignore the women, the blacks, the Latinos, the gays, the Asians, the educated, the intelligent, the mature, the young, the environment, the hopes of the oppressed and alienated, the truth. The huge cosmic shift of consciousness which began in the 1960s or even earlier has now caused a new political reality to emerge which no one on planet earth, even Republicans, can ignore. Change has come to our planet.
I think I’m a realist. I know that all the change coming will not be good. I now that there will be violence. I know that the environment will continue to be in peril. I know that many people will continue to be poor and oppressed and alienated. I know that it could and probably will get worse before it gets better.
But, my friends, change has come to our planet. This is a huge opportunity to work together as one human race to solve many problems. Hope trumped fear. Love trumped hate.
I was a Republican once! Republicans are the party of Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt and Eisenhower and Colin Powell. This is an opportunity for the Loyal Opposition to discover their heart and soul. This is an opportunity for pragmatism in both parties to triumph over ideology. In 1933, FDR and Herbert Hoover weren’t that far apart. Roosevelt simply got to work trying to find ways to end the crippling depression. He literally saved American democracy and capitalism. By the 1950s, the Republicans could get the White House back because a pragmatic General Eisenhower and even his more ideological running mate, Richard Nixon, promised to continue the New Deal. When Nixon got to be President, he turned out to be just as pragmatic as Roosevelt! But then the ideologues took over. They cynically used wedge issues to get power and keep power from 1980 until now.
I’m sure the Republicans have a future …. if they rediscover their pragmatic heart and head and soul. They must humbly work with the new Democratic majority as they did back in the 50s and 60s and 70s. They must repent for all that hate-mongering and fear-mongering. A new global era of love and hope has begun and it is time for Republicans to get with the program. I think they will.
